Pluto/Neptune Generations/Eras

In generational astrology, two planets are the biggest factors as to why certain age groups have distinct characteristics and why certain time periods have a distinct culture and theme:

Pluto- The core reality of the generation. In culture, the overall world and political climate.
Neptune- The dreams, ideals, and overall culture of the generation. Also, the overall culture of the time period.

Uranus plays a role as well as a sub generational planet (for example, in the Pluto in Scorpio/Neptune in Capricorn era, Uranus in Sagittarius was the hair band part of the era, while Uranus in Capricorn was when grunge music was mainstream. In the Pluto in Libra/Neptune in Sagittarius era, disco and progressive rock were big when Uranus was in Scorpio, but New Wave became popular during Uranus in Sagittarius in 1981-1984. In the Pluto in Sagittarius/Neptune in Aquarius era, the boy bands, nu metal, and teen pop were big when Uranus was in Aquarius, but emo music became huge whern Uranus went into Pisces around 2003) but it's only in a sign for around 7 years, half the length of Pluto and Neptune's transits. The living Pluto/Neptune generations/eras:

Pluto in Cancer/Neptune in Virgo (1928-1939)- The Silent Generation. These people were born during the Great Depression and came of age during the post war economic boom. This group is very patriotic and family oriented, and idealized having a job and roof over their head. The Hoover and FDR years.
Pluto in Leo/Neptune in Libra (1942-1957)- The Baby Boomers. These people were born during the McCarthyism era, where the fear of the "bomb" and the "commie getting you" were common place. This group is very self expressive and loves to be the center of attention, yet idealize a fair and peaceful society. This is why they became the hippies in the 1960s during the Vietnam War, and their protests of the draft ultimately led to Jimmy Carter abolishing the draft altogether. This was the era where classical music was mainstream, as Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, and Nat King Cole dominated, and these were the Truman and Eisenhower years.
Pluto in Virgo/Neptune in Scorpio- The Yuppies/Helicopter Parents (1956-1970). This generation is more ordinary than the rest, as they're more focused on work and health. These are the people born during the Vietnam War and the Civil Rights movement, as these were the main themes throughout this era. This era was the JFK/LBJ/MLK years, and the music that dominated during these years was classic rock, Motown, Doo Wop, rockabilly, and girl groups.
Pluto in Libra/Neptune in Sagittarius (1971-1984)- Generation X. This generation is very relationship and justice oriented, and were born mainly during the Ford and Carter years, where the people wanted a "good guy" in office after the Watergate scandal in 1974. This was the era where divorce laws loosened considerably and Roe vs. Wade became law. The feminist movement was during these years as well, giving a balance to the roles of men and women. Music that dominated during this era was classic progressive rock, arena rock, disco, funk, and New Wave.
Pluto in Scorpio/Neptune in Capricorn (1984-1995)- The Millennials. This generation is very intense and concerned with the ultimate reality, yet is also labeled as "entitled", due to being born during the materialism culture of the late 80s and early 90s. It is no coincidence that the mainstream media is losing relevance as soon as this group became adults. These are the Reagan and HW Bush years, which are known for the collapse of the Berlin Wall, the end of the Cold War, the Gulf War, Iran Contra, the LA Riots, and most notably the emergence of HIV/AIDS, forever killing the concept of "free sex". Music that dominated this era includes hair bands, heavy metal, grunge, gangsta rap, soft rock, and R&B, and this era is also known for many major sitcoms, most notably Family Matters, Full House, Fresh Prince, Roseanne, Married With Children, Home Improvement, Seinfeld, Cosby Show, and Saved By The Bell to name a few.
Pluto in Sagittarius/Neptune in Aquarius (1998-2008)- The Digitals. This generation is today's teenagers, who are very freedom oriented, more so than usual. Being born in the technology culture of the late 90s and 2000s (internet became mainstream, cell phones became a must have item, Myspace was a big deal, and Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube all debuted in this era), they don't know what a world without technology was like. These were the Bush years, where terrorism and religious fundamentalism were main themes. Music that dominated in this era are boy bands, bubblegum/teen pop, southern rap, nu metal, pop punk, and emo. Reality TV became a very big deal during this era as well.
Pluto in Capricorn/Neptune in Pisces (2011-present)- These people are still being born and this era is still not over (it ends in 2024) though as a result of this transit people are more concerned with their governments and how they're owned by the corporations rather than the war on terror, and alternative spirituality is being embraced by many in the midst of so many problems. Facebook, Twitter, and YouTube are used to spread awareness on the big issues just as much as they're used for fun.

What does this mean? It means that like political ideology, generational values are innate, and thus it's silly and a waste of energy to be so divided over them. It also means that it is pointless for parents to try and raise their children to have the same values as them, as they'll inevitably rebel in some way (Pluto in Cancer family values vs. Pluto in Leo individualism is the most prime example of this). In other words, coexist.
